“I should attract her attention “. Said the boy to his friends.
“You can never do that”
“She is hateful of boys” replied his friends.
The three boys were standing in the head of their street, waiting for the beautiful Maria to come. Maria was not the only girl in their neighborhood. There were many girls living in the same neighborhood, but Maria’s beauty, good behavior and not caring about any boy had made the boys interested in her and they would do their best to find a way and start a relationship with her. The boy, Alex, was very eager in girls and he had many girlfriends.
He and his friends would bet on making friends with girls. It was leisure for them.
“Look; she is coming” one of the boys said. Alex’s heart started beating hard though he was not in love with Maria and he was just eager in the leisure of passing time with Maria and also to fulfill his promise to his friends who had waged on it.
“Would you leave me alone?” Alex said to his friends. “I wana be alone when her closing me”
“That’s alright, but be careful she may beat you; she is somehow dangerous to boys.” His friends said teasing him and going away.
Maria got close to him without even giving him an eye and got on her way toward her house where her parents were waiting for her. Alex had resolved to speak to Maria this time. It was more than two months that he didn’t dare to say even a word to the beautiful maiden.
He started walking following Maria.
“May I ask for an speech dear?” Said Alex
Maria, without caring and even replying, got on her way and arrived home. Alex was angry. He went beside his friends. They started laughing at him again as they would do in all this two months.
The same thing happened in the next days and Maria went home without paying attention to his usual speech.
Finally, Alex decided to write a letter for the girl. So he did it. He expressed his deep love toward her and begged for a very short speech. The next day, he started walking behind Maria as usual. This time, without saying a word or trying to attract her attention. He dropped the letter into her bag which hadn’t been zipped up well. And the girl didn’t notice it nor knew about it. At home, Maria started taking out the things from her bag and saw the letter accidentally.
She got surprised and decided to know what it was. Soon, she got that it was from the pushy boy Alex who had expressed his love to her. She started crying. She had a mystery in her heart which nobody was aware of, even her parents.
Maria decided to reply the letter. In it, she wrote shortly:
“I very much like to never see you again”
Alex got resolute in acquiring his wanting after reading Maria’s reply. So, he went ahead and did his best. He would dress to the teeth, behave well and do anything to attract Maria’s attention. It seemed as if he really had fallen in love with her. Still, Maria didn’t want him. It was Sunday and Alex Brown knew that Maria and her friends would go to church that day. So he waited to see her in front of the church.
When Maria saw Alex waiting in front of the church, she decided not to go there. So she returned home. She seemed hateful of him. Alex, being dazed and not knowing what to do, got depressed. He had examined all the ways and none of them worked. Alex was very professional at such works and he could easily catch up with girls, but Maria was different.
He finally decided to go beside Maria’s friend, Sarah, who was her intimate friend. Alex started crying beside Sarah, telling her: “I very much love her. She has been all my life. I can’t live without her, but she doesn’t care at all.” And got on begging Sarah to do something for him. Sarah had now got that Alex has really fallen in love with Maria. This was too obvious in his behavior.
“You can’t be cruel to the one who really loves you” Said Sarah to her friend Maria.
But…
Sarah started working on Maria’s mind for days and could finally convince her to speak with Alex.
“All I wana say, is that I strongly love you”. Said Alex to Maria. And they started arguing, but finally Alex could make Maria believe his love. And they started a relationship.
“Congratulations Alex, you stubborn idiot, you finally did it.” His friends told him.
But what was important for him was that he had gained his love and his friends didn’t know that.
His days of being with Maria started. They both loved each other very much.
“Alex I didn’t know you were such a good person. I really can’t live without you” Maria would repeat it many times each day.
They were always with each other, but there was a really big problem. Maria had a traditional family. Her family would never let her such relations and they would certainly deprive her of seeing Alex if they knew about it, and it was the worst thing happening and unluckily it happened.
Some days, Alex and Maria were walking together, holding hands and speaking about their beautiful future they had visualized for themselves.
Suddenly…
They found a face of an angry woman.
She was Maria’s mother.
“What the hell are you two doing? Who is this boy Maria?”
Cried her mother
“This is Alex mummy, he is my love.” Replied Maria
But the woman didn’t agree on such relations. So she separated them and prisoned Maria at home, making her forbidden of going anywhere alone.
Days were hardly passing for both of them. They were crying for each other days and nights. They couldn’t see each other even for short seconds.
A week passed and Alex and Maria got sadder.
Someday,
Alex was crying again in memory of his beautiful beloved.
He suddenly faint. Soon, he was carried to hospital.
“I’m so sorry to say that your son suffers from a mental illness Mr. Brown. He has got an enormous gland in his mind.” Said the doctor to Alex’s father
Things seemed over for Alex. He soon had to be operated; otherwise he couldn’t live very much.
Maria was not aware of this disaster, otherwise she would fall in a worse manner.
Alex wouldn’t go to Maria’s Alley anymore. He wanted her to forget about him.
Days passed…
When Maria’s parents got Alex not attending toward their house anymore, they freed Maria and let her do her daily works freely. They thought Alex has forgotten about their daughter.
Soon, Alex received messages from Maria, informing him about her freedom and requiring to make a tryst.
“Maria, dear, I can’t be with you anymore.” Said Alex
“Why, Alex, what has happened? Don’t you love me anymore? Have you fallen in love with somebody else?” Said Maria
“No, No, No”,
But…
I’ve got something to tell you Maria. I have to leave you. Indeed, I can’t be with anybody, even with you. Maria… I … am … ill, I won’t live very much. You have to abandon me and attend your own life.”
And he started telling her everything about his disease.
There was silence…
Suddenly, they both burst into tears.
“But I’m sure you are lying. Come on Alex, tell me you are kidding.” Said Maria
But he was silent again.
“Were you kidding Alex?” asked Maria
“You have to leave me Maria” Said Alex
Maria wouldn’t believe his words, but he had some evidence to demonstrate his words to her, the evidence which were written by hospital to confirm his disease.
After a long pause, Maria said: “But I will never leave you. You are my love. I can’t live without you”
And Alex started insisting her to abandon him. But she still loved him and his insisting didn’t work.
“I will never leave you alone dear Alex”
It was all of what Maria would say to Alex.
Suddenly, a man appeared in front of them. He was Maria’s father who was still controlling his daughter.
Again, they got separated and the bad days started. Crying was the only thing they could do.
After short days, it was time for Alex to be operated.
It was Wednesday and he was to be operated the day after tomorrow which was Friday.
“What a misfortune! I may never be able to see my dear Maria anymore. I may don’t come out alive from the theatre.” Thought Alex
The doctors had spoken about the probability of his death during the operation and he was aware of it.
He, thinking to Maria, made a decision. He decided to see Maria for the last time before his being operated. But how...
He directly went to Maria’s house and knocked at the door.
Maria’s father opened the door.
“Is that you? What the hell are you doing here? Why don’t you leave us free?”
And Alex started speaking about his illness and going to be operated in the coming days. He was hardly crying. He was begging Maria’s father to let him see his love for the last time.
“You know, the day after tomorrow may be the last day of my life. I may never come back again. Please….. Please, do let me see her. I beg you”
When he rose his head to know about Maria’s father’s decision of letting him see her or not, he found some drops of tears on Maria’s father’s cheeks.
“You impressed me boy. Maria is waiting for inside the house”
Nothing else could make Alex as happy as this sentence did. So, he didn’t wait a second and ran into the house looking for Maria.
“Maria, dear, where are you?” shouted Alex
“Is that you Alex? How possible?” Maria was surprised
They sat by and started speaking and Alex told her about the operation on the day after tomorrow. Alex was speaking and everybody was crying even Maria’s father who had joined the assembly.
“I, very very much love Maria, but the fate map doesn’t let us be with each other. I may never recover from this terrible disease. I may … die, but I have to thank you because you let me see my love for the last time. Now, Maria, you never forget about my love toward you.”
Then he decided to leave them.
“Don’t be this much disappointed guy. I’m sure you’ll recover. We will wait for you, we will pray for you.” Said Maria’s father
“Alex I’m waiting for you to come back. Come back to me soon my dear. Don’t leave me alone. I can’t live without you” Said Maria
It was time for goodbye. Alex and Maria hardly separated.
He had to be prepared for the operation.
The two days passed and Alex went to the operation room. Every body was there in the hospital except MARIA!
She was home praying for Alex.
The operation got end and Alex recovered. He had returned to life. He was healthy again.
“Where is Maria?” he asked every one, but nobody knew where she was. Even her parents who were in the hospital.
“She was home, crying and praying for Alex. I did see her when leaving home toward here.” Said Maria’s mother
So, they went to house altogether to inform Maria about Alex and give her the good news.
“Please let me get in alone. I want to make her surprised”
Said Alex to the others
So, he went in alone shouting: “dear, where are you? It’s me Alex. I’m here darling. I’m with you again. Nothing can separate us anymore”
But there was no reply.
Alex directly headed toward Maria’s room and found her there lying on the bed, her back toward Alex, but she wouldn’t reply Alex.
So, he got close to her and touched her.
Maria was dead with tears on her cheeks.
Nobody knew she had cancer and this was the mystery she never told anyone!
